The GR Yaris exists because Toyota needed a homologation car for the WRC. That means the car was designed from scratch as a rally car and made road legal after. The roof is carbon fibre, the doors and bonnet are aluminium, and the body is 55 mm longer, 60 mm wider and 45 mm lower than the standard Yaris. The 1.6 litre three-cylinder turbo produces 280 ps and 390 Nm. This example has the eight-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission, a torque converter unit specifically tuned by Toyota for this car. In Sport and Track modes it reacts aggressively to throttle inputs and holds higher revs. On the motorway you would never know.
Fun fact: the rear half of the body is not from a Yaris. Toyota used the floorpan of the Corolla and C-HR because it better suited the wide rear tracks the WRC team required.

Dit exemplaar heeft de achttraps Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission, een torque converter die Toyota specifiek voor dit model heeft afgesteld. In Sport en Track reageert hij agressief op het gaspedaal en houdt hij hogere toeren aan. Op de snelweg merk je er niets van.
Leuk detail: de achterste helft van de carrosserie is niet van een Yaris. Toyota gebruikte de bodem van de Corolla en de C-HR omdat die beter paste bij de brede achtersporen die het WRC team wilde.
