Ford GT
The Ford GT was conceived as a modern interpretation of one of the most important racing cars in American history: the legendary Ford GT40. The original GT40 was created during Ford's famous battle with Ferrari and went on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times, from 1966 through 1969, including Ford's historic 1-2-3 finish in 1966.
Nearly four decades later, Ford decided to revive that heritage as part of the celebrations surrounding the company's centenary. The resulting GT40 Concept was unveiled at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Designed under the direction of Camilo Pardo, it retained the unmistakable proportions and visual identity of the original GT40 while reinterpreting them as a modern supercar.
The concept caused such a strong reaction that Ford rapidly approved it for production. The production car became simply the Ford GT and arrived for the 2005 model year with a purpose-built 5.4-litre supercharged V8 producing 550 hp, a Ricardo six-speed manual gearbox, aluminium construction and race-inspired double-wishbone suspension.
Unlike many modern interpretations of historic cars, the Ford GT remained remarkably faithful to its concept. This is particularly evident in Speed Yellow with Black Racing Stripes: the original car shown to the press before its 2002 Detroit debut was described at the time as yellow and black, making this production colour combination one of the closest visual links to the concept that started the entire programme.
Production remained deliberately limited. Only 4,038 cars were completed for the 2005 and 2006 model years, of which 2,027 were 2005 models. Speed Yellow was one of the rarest regular production colours, with only 172 examples across both years – 97 in 2005 and 75 in 2006.
This particular example is therefore especially appealing a 2005 Speed Yellow Ford GT with Black Racing Stripes, delivered new in Michigan, equipped with the desirable forged BBS wheels and McIntosh sound system, and accompanied by an extensive Ford maintenance history with 14 service records.
Its colour scheme is not merely rare; it directly connects the production Ford GT with the yellow-and-black 2002 concept that announced the return of the GT40 philosophy to the road.
