The BMW Z8 got its heart from the E39 M5: the same 4.9 litre V8, the same six-speed Getrag manual gearbox. What the Z8 did not get was the M5's limited-slip differential, a deliberate choice by BMW to keep the character looser. The chassis is a fully aluminium space frame, something no other BMW of that period had, with a weight distribution of exactly 50:50. James Bond drove one in The World is Not Enough in 1999, before the production car had even reached the market.
This example stayed within a select number of hands throughout its life: a Dutch first owner from 2003, followed by two German owners, the current one having owned the car since 2009. The paintwork is original. The complete service history is documented, from the running-in check at 2,813 km at BMW Bert Story in Waardenburg to recent maintenance at BMW Louyet EuMa in Malmedy. The car comes with the full accessory pack: the hardtop with trolley and cover, the original Motorola/BMW car phone, a wind deflector, the large Z8 photo book and a 1:18 scale model.
Fun fact: BMW built the Z8 exclusively as a left-hand-drive roadster. A coupé version was never approved for production, despite a concept version having existed.

De BMW Z8 kreeg zijn hart van de E39 M5: dezelfde 4,9 liter V8, dezelfde zestraps handbak van Getrag. Het chassis is een volledig aluminium ruimteframe, iets wat geen enkele andere BMW van die periode had, met een gewichtsverdeling van exact 50:50. James Bond reed er een in The World is Not Enough uit 1999, nog voor de productieauto op de markt kwam.
Dit exemplaar bleef zijn hele leven binnen een select aantal handen: een Nederlandse eerste eigenaar vanaf 2003, gevolgd door twee Duitse eigenaren, waarvan de huidige de wagen sinds 2009 bezit. Het lakwerk is origineel. De volledige onderhoudshistorie is gedocumenteerd, van de inloopcontrole op 2.813 km bij BMW Bert Story in Waardenburg tot recent onderhoud bij BMW Louyet EuMa in Malmedy. De wagen komt met het volledige accessoirepakket: de hardtop met transportwagentje en hoes, de originele Motorola/BMW autotelefoon, een windscherm, het grote Z8 fotoboek en een 1:18 schaalmodel.
Leuk detail: BMW bouwde de Z8 uitsluitend als linkerstuur roadster. Een coupé versie werd nooit goedgekeurd voor productie, ondanks een conceptversie die er wel was.

Anecdote: BMW n'a construit la Z8 qu'en version roadster à conduite à gauche. Une version coupé n'a jamais été approuvée pour la production, malgré l'existence d'une version concept.
