The SL65 AMG Black Series replaced the entire folding roof of the standard SL65 with a fixed carbon roof, along with most of the body panels. That saves 250 kg. The 6.0 litre twin-turbo V12 produces 670 ps at 5,400 rpm. Torque is electronically capped at 1,000 Nm, because without that limit the engine would push towards 1,220 Nm and destroy the five-speed automatic. Track width is 115 mm wider at the front and 103 mm wider at the rear than the standard SL65, with completely revised suspension replacing the air-based hardware with classic coilovers. At its introduction this was the most powerful production model AMG had ever built.
Fun fact: the rear spoiler automatically extends 12 cm at high speed for added stability. At normal speeds it remains fully hidden within the bodywork.

De SL65 AMG Black Series verving het volledige klapdak van de gewone SL65 door een vast dak in carbon, samen met het merendeel van de carrosseriepanelen. Dat scheelt 250 kg. De 6,0 liter V12 met twee turbo's levert 670 pk bij 5.400 toeren. Het koppel wordt elektronisch begrensd tot 1.000 Nm, want zonder die begrenzing zou de motor richting 1.220 Nm gaan en de vijftraps automaat vernielen. Track is 115 mm breder vooraan en 103 mm breder achteraan dan de gewone SL65, met volledig herziene ophanging die racewielophanging vervangt door klassieke coilovers. Bij introductie was dit het krachtigste productiemodel dat AMG ooit gebouwd had.
Leuk detail: de achtervleugel schuift automatisch 12 cm uit bij hoge snelheid voor extra stabiliteit. Bij normale snelheden blijft hij volledig weggewerkt in de carrosserie.

Le couple est électroniquement limité à 1 000 Nm, car sans cette limite, le moteur monterait vers 1 220 Nm et détruirait la boîte automatique à cinq rapports. La voie est élargie de 115 mm à l'avant et de 103 mm à l'arrière par rapport à la SL65 standard, avec une suspension entièrement revue remplaçant le système pneumatique par des combinés filetés classiques. Lors de son introduction, il s'agissait du modèle de série le plus puissant qu'AMG ait jamais construit.
Anecdote: l'aileron arrière se déploie automatiquement de 12 cm à haute vitesse pour plus de stabilité. À vitesse normale, il reste entièrement dissimulé dans la carrosserie.
