BMW E34 M5 (1990) – Hartge Gr.A Ringtool
For sale is a unique and high-quality built 1990 BMW E34 M5, equipped with an original Hartge Group A S38B36 engine. The car was completely stripped down, restored, and professionally resprayed in its original factory color in 2014.
Engine & Electronics
The heart of this M5 is an S38B36 engine sourced from an original Hartge E34 Group A race car. Back then, this engine was only run for a break-in period; the race car was written off during its very first test session, after which the engine was immediately removed. The block was thoroughly checked before being installed in this car. The engine has covered only 8,000 kilometers since.
- Output: 370 Hp / 380 Nm.
- Engine Management: KMS MD35 ECU (replacing the old Alpha N system). It runs in 'banked mode' (cylinders 1-3 and 4-6 controlled separately) with two wideband lambda sensors for a smooth and stable idle/run.
- Camshafts: Dialed in specifically for increased torque and better driveability.
- Lubrication: Baffled oil sump with non-return flaps, based on the design of the S14 Group A engines.
The car has been technically prepared for track use (Ringtool):
- Suspension: Intrax 1k2 suspension with roll centre correction (comes with 2 sets of springs).
- Brakes: XYZ brake calipers (6-pot front, 4-pot rear).
- Exhaust: Eisenmann exhaust system.
- Safety: Pleie Sport roll bar.
Both visually and technically, the car is in excellent condition:
- Wheels: 18-inch BBS RC 062 staggered setup with Pirelli tires + 17-inch 2forge wheels with Dunlop semi-slicks.
- Interior: Completely reupholstered in Leather/Alcantara, including a new black headliner and fresh rear deck trim.
- Steering Wheel: 370mm M-Tech 2 steering wheel, newly wrapped in leather with M-stitching.
- Year of manufacture: 1990 (Rebuild in 2014)
- Engine mileage: 8,000 km since inspection/installation
- Maintenance update: Two years ago, new ACL rod bearings and ARP2000 rod bolts were installed as a preventive measure.
